Make Money with iPhone: Making Apps
Let’s face it: competition is stiff at the Apple App store. Of course, this hasn’t killed the lure of making money with apps. The market is huge and if you have a great idea, the potential to make money with iPhone apps is pretty huge as well. So where do you start, anyway?
Your Great Idea
Most of it starts with a great idea. Though if you’re looking to break into the Apple App marketplace, it’s imperative that you get yourself some background info on what you’re getting into. You should do some research on what sort of apps and games are popular, and what other apps stand in direct competition to yours.
There really isn’t one sure fire recipe for a successful app or game. An app can be as simple as iFart (a novelty app that, as the name suggests, makes sounds of passing gas) or a game can be as uncomplicated as Fruit Ninja and still be popular. On the other hand, you can make an app like Epicurious that is basically a repository for recipes you can cook up with the ingredients you have on hand and get numerous downloads. Think your idea through: what niche market will it fill? Is it an app people will tell their friends about?
Once you’ve turned your great idea into a polished product, then you can start to make money with iPhone apps.
Getting Your App Out There
So you’ve made your idea into an app and have had it beta-tested to get all of the bugs out. What now? The next step is to submit it to the App Store for approval. If your app doesn’t contain pornographic or offensive content, is polished and bug-free, and doesn’t resemble another app too closely, then it should be approved for selling on the store. Marketing and promotions come next to basically get the word out about your app.
As we’ve mentioned, the potential to make money with iPhone apps is great, though you will need to do your research, produce a quality product, and promote it for you to really rake in the download numbers.
